Pedersen Power Products is a leading original equipment manufacturer of medium voltage metalclad switchgear. We can provide a wide range of voltages and ampacity ratings. These include: 5-15KV, 250-1500MVA; 27KV, 750-2000MVA; and 38KV, 16-31.5KA and 1500MVA.
Metalclad switchgear provides a single source of control and protection of medium voltage equipment in utility, industrial and commercial installations.
Pedersen Power Products can provide the metalclad switchgear in many different designs: such as indoor, outdoor with an aisle, outdoor with a common aisle, outdoor without an aisle.
Indoor metalclad switchgear is fabricated using the most basic components only from the breaker manufacturer. The breaker cubicles and bus compartments feature completely welded construction using 11-gauge steel for a rigid structure. The individual structures are then bolted together to form a continuous lineup of switchgear. The switchgear doors are made with double returns and welded edges to prevent warping and insure proper operation of latches. The breaker compartment interiors are powder coat painted in a white finish for maximum visibility in an enclosed space. The buswork features fluidized bed epoxy insulated copper bus. The assembly is configured so that the lineup can be extended in the future from either end.
The Outdoor Metalclad switchgear lineup is built per ANSI standards and utilizes the switchgear assembly as an integral part of the outdoor housing. The exterior roof and wall panels are formed of 11-gauge steel sheets to create a self-framing structure. Joints in the roof and wall panels align with the sections of the metalclad assembly. Roof caps of formed 11-gauge steel, cover each roof panel joint to create a permanent weather seal. Wall panels are formed to interlock and are bolted together. Wall panels are mounted on a structural channel base with steel deck sheeting welded in place to create the operator’s floor. The assembly can be provided with or without insulation. If insulated, interior liner panels of formed 14-gauge steel are attached to the 11 gauge exterior wall panels with foam insulation board sandwiched between the interior and exterior sheets. This all bolted construction allows all surfaces to be painted prior to assembly, and eliminate the need for exterior hardware. This construction method has enabled PPP’s
outdoor enclosure to double the performance required by ANSI C37.20.2
section S.Z.9 rain test for outdoor switchgear.
The outdoor switchgear with an aisle is used to provide an area to work in front of the equipment and to mount auxiliary equipment on the walls. A workspace, battery room or control room can also be provided on either end of the lineup per customer specifications.
The outdoor switchgear with a common aisle is available to provide switchgear on each side of the aisle. This design usually has an eight or ten foot aisle between the lineups. Additional workspace or battery rooms can also be added on either end of the lineup, per customer specifications. This design offers an efficient utilization of floor space for larger lineups of switchgear.
The outdoor aisle-less switchgear requires the user to install a concrete pad on the breaker drawout side of the switchgear. This configuration is used when minimal space is available in the substation. No interior workspace is available in this design.
All equipment is available using different substrate
components to suit environmental conditions.
